One of the difficulties in teaching that we are encountering nowadays is the pupil’s behavior. The flow of teaching our lesson is often cut by those pupils who are misbehaving.

A misbehaving child is a discouraged child. Punishing him will just violate his right as a child. What he needs is gentle encouragement that will develop his self-confidence.

Here are some ways to develop self-confidence among our pupils.

  1. Enhance their self-esteem. Let us show appreciation of the things that they do best or the activities where they excel. We can even praise their good posture, their beautiful smiles or even their beautiful hair. We cam affirm that they have something that is good about them so that they will feel good about themselves.
  2. Show them the beauty of touch therapy. A back-rub, a hug, a tap on the shoulder could mean a world of difference to them and their learning. Touch is simply human energy. Giving it freely can put back children on the right track. It can help them move with confidence.
  3. Teach them the use of effective communication skills. Let us try not to be too commanding on them when we are having communication. Let us help them realize that they will get more of what they want if they use good gestures and pleasant words.
  4. Let our pupils have positive self-image. Let us avoid labeling our pupils. Let us avoid calling them stupid, crazy or wild. They will later tend to hold on to that negative tag if we continue. Let us try to see their other strengths so that we could bring out the best in them.
