My experience with the National Learning Camp Program of the Department of Education at Bagong Silang Elementary School started with great enthusiasm and excitement. The objectives of NLC are to participate in fun activities with learning to foster socio-emotional character development among learners as an innovative approach. This SY 2024 I was assigned as the NLC focal person, I was eager to embark on this new role and help create a meaningful impact on our learners. My own initiative was to equip myself with a strong understanding of the learning resources at hand which will be shared to some of the volunteer teachers. Working in collaboration with other teacher volunteer across all grade levels added a service of collaboration and intervention to the plans.
Sharing insights, exchanging ideas, interactive activities and collectively strategizing for the 1st week provided a platform to foster innovative and exciting activities for the camp learners. On the first day, I prioritized establishing rapport with the campers on the opening program. It was vital to differentiate this experience from the old classroom environment, safeguarding that the learners felt the fun, engaging atmosphere on the NLC while remaining focused on the learning objectives.
My first impression for the first week of the NLC camp has been a steep learning curve, full of shared experiences, eye-opening revelations, and chances for professional development. Although it was exhausting, the satisfaction from this wonderful experience was far greater. My passion in teaching and my responsibility goes beyond merely imparting knowledge; but it also involves creating an impression in which students can develop not only academically but also personally and emotionally. Looking forward to the coming weeks as we continue to give more best practices on the lessons we’ve learned and enhance our strategy for the benefit of our learners.
