Teachers’ ability to manage their classroom is a factor in judging their performance.

Effective classroom management impacts pupils’ ability to learn and succeed academically during the school year. Most well-managed classrooms include pupils who are engaged in the learning process and professional teachers who build mutually beneficial relationships with and among pupils.

Rules and procedures that are communicated, practiced, and consistently enforced set up well-managed classrooms. Rules outline how pupils are expected to behave and there are consequences for not following those agreed-upon rules. Procedures help pupils know how to accomplished daily task in the classroom.

Learning time, or “time on task”, is optimal in well-managed classrooms. Well-managed classrooms are often buzzing with activities. Pupils are engaged about the lesson. A teacher in well-managed classroom is able to focus her pupils during activities and get the attention whenever she needs it.

Building relationships is also an element. Teachers should encourage pupils to build positive and supportive relationship with each other. Professional and effective teachers led well-managed classrooms. They are good role models and effective educators who use best practices to maintain a better classroom environment.
