The demands of the global community are climbing up to its zenith as time goes by. In line with the visions and missions of all the schools, state universities and colleges, individuals are taught to regulate self-learning, level up the skills in problem solving, immerse on the duties in the society, hone the character and personality, so that they will be able to provide what is needed by the entire nation.
We defined curriculum as a set of designs tailored to nurture every learner’s passion divulging them to different experiences to make learning more authentic and effective. Teachers are the prime movers in the educative field and their goals are to make their targets fill their minds with such knowledge, touch their hearts with core values as of the good manners and right conducts, and equip their bodies with sufficient potentials leading them to success. A curriculum does not only entail lawfully implemented strategies, rules, policies, and guidelines, there is what is also termed “hidden.” To specify, it is a type of curriculum that encompasses the planned implementations of the school. It refers to a kind of learning not gained by the teachers who teach the subjects nor the other activities that are partly extra-curricular. It comes out from socializing with others, from the uncontrolled situations, and of course, from the practices involved in values education.
The curriculum is one of the foundations that we ought to study, develop more, or even change a bit. In the past decades, the Philippines has its own educational system.Kindergarten, six years in elementary, and four years in secondary level – students have to undergo these before taking vocational courses or enroll in collegiate level. But now, there is a new curricular program the former Philippine President, Benigno Simeon Aquino III, managed to make legal and part of the new enactment. It is the K to 12 System. It is a dynamic process the country encounters as of today. Another two years had been added in the secondary level, thus called the Senior High School. This program was patterned synonymous to the curricula of Europe and America, and the majority of the countries in Asia. Here, students are given more opportunities to study and work in the country or abroad right after graduation. Added to the assets, it is inclined with the proclamation of the ASEAN (Association of the Southeast Asian Nations) Integration which stabilizes the moves in achieving sustainable development goals.
The Senior High School Level consists of various tracks and strands. Among these are the Science, Technology, and Mathematics; the Humanities; the Accountancy and Business Management; and the General Academic Strand. There is also the Technical Vocational and Livelihood Track. This widens the scope of the knowledge of the students to be immersed more on research and develop their skills through experiential learning courses and trainings. As stated, the ASEAN Integration assures that a global setting relives neighborhood by lending hands to one another. The Filipinos may apply and be acknowledged by the other nations involved in the said assimilation. In return, the country should also do the same.
The only thing that hinders the smooth flow of the K to 12 Program is the process of producing adequate resources and strong manpower. More teachers are on call. Buildings and facilities are to be constructed. The parents, the stakeholders, and the government should see to it that the pillars of learning are well maintained, so that the home for education will be maintained no matter what it takes.
Truly, the Philippines has now entered the era of dynamism towards a better world.
