Included in the Philippine Literature articles used in Grade 7 English are the literary genres: : Short Story, Novel, Epic, Essay, Proverb, Legend, Folktale, Myth, Poem and Folklore. The curriculum writers should be commended in including Philippine Literature especially in the first Quarter part. The study of literature has two aspects: one, of simple enjoyment and appreciation; the other, of analysis and description not to mention the tracing of our roots and the searching for our beginnings. When we listen to a song that appeals to the ear or read a book that appeals to the heart, for the moment t least, we discover a new world, a world so different from ours that it seems to be a world of dreams and fancies. To enter and enjoy this new world, we must learn to love literature. In the first place, literature is the totality of the writings of a given language or people, which have been preserved. Many wondered about the purpose of literature to Grade 7’s study, or more broadly to their life. Why do they have to study it, or why is it included in the curriculum. The curriculum writers are right. The answer is simple. Literature is life. Can you imagine life without literature? Our very own life is literature—a story, an art. Through literature Grade 7 students will be able to learn to reflect on the issues that concern people for centuries. It presents to us the complexities of human nature in a way that our mind and soul can understand. Literature feeds the soul, through it, challenges and problems are solved, given insights. It can make a reader smile, to be romantic and erase dark clouds of their life. Literature guides a traveler in his or her travel Literature can make the study of Grade 7 students to be more encouraging and inspired.
