First day of school is always an adventure. It is on this day when expectations begin and may also end. The experiences on this first day may last throughout the school year.

On the first day of the class, the teacher must have great a wholesome atmosphere to generate a positive approach and active participation of the pupils.

There are 10 points for effective teaching on the first day of school. These may help you to boost your first day of school.

  1. Plan your work and work on your plan. Allow yourself appropriate lead time before the first day arrives. You should plan three weeks advance. The more prepared your, the more relaxed and resilient you will be.
  2. Discuss your expectation and their expectations. On the first meeting day, you should discuss the expectation of each member as regards participation in class activities and discipline including rewards for achievements and punishments for violation of regulations. Make realize that teaching-learning process is a cooperative endeavour.
  3. Be prepared to involve the class in more exciting lesson on the first day. Do not spend the whole day lesson with so-called housekeeping chores . In as much as the first class can be your best shot at setting the tone for the entire year.
  4. Teaching begins where the learner is. Level of achievements of the pupils must to be considered on the first day. Encourage individual to improve themselves.
  5. Start the day presenting a firm image of you. Show to your pupils the important attributes that efficient teacher has, together with a sound philosophy of life that would give meaning and a sense of direction for your endeavour to keep yourself physically fit.
  6. Command respect. Be firm to your decision because sooner or later, the class will detect any inconsistency like being strict and being very lax that may confuse them.
  7. Be confident. Show enthusiasm. Don’t worry making mistake, everyone has a good share of them. Not every lesson turns out exactly as it is supposed to be.
  8. Be flexible. Expect the unexpected. Unexpected results raise the questions “How come?” and sometimes generate more interest than the anticipated results. Make use of them.
  9. Take some calculated risks. Try those teaching innovation you are wondering about. Remember that little risk, little progress.

10.  Work at staying healthy. You should remember that you are the dearest thing in the classroom. Protect yourself from continuing onslaught of typical classroom illnesses by getting lots of rest.

It is important to consider instances in order to promote quality education. Making the first day in school exciting is a good step.
