“Anything polluted by corruption leads to destruction”

-Anonymous

Corruption—tax evasion; bribery; ghost projects and payrolls; nepotism and favoritism; extortion, “Tong” or protection money—the common grounds of corruption. These forms of illegal activity or operation done by citizens, best describe the killing effect of CORRUPTION.

Eradicating government corruption will be as difficult or as exhaustive as cleaning the Aegean stables. Sad to say, Philippines is considered as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Transparency International’s latest Corruption Perception Index (October 2010) ranked Philippines 134th among 178 countries surveyed.

In truth, corruption in our country often starts during election campaigns when politicians pile up debts of gratitude for votes and campaign financing. Corruption, however, is not only in politics, but also in school and even in the family. Corruption is everywhere— an evil indeed.

If these system and illegal acts will get worse, probably, the seed of corruption will continue to be sown in this country leading to impede the economic growth and even its stability. One way of keeping track of these activities is by implementing strictly laws regarding the unhampered illegal operations.

On the contrary, campaign against corruption should be conducted not just by the government alone. More importantly, it should be conducted without letup by civil society groups and the average citizens.

To sum up the foregoing, corruption leads to our destruction. We must fight against corruption—a task that seems daunting , but it can be done. Let us all be catalysts of change and builders of better society for all.
