In school, Computers are used for instructional purpose. Computers enable individual pupils/students to learn by themselves. Even whole classes can utilize computers for “through computer, learning then can be facilitated and increase enormously.”
Computers are generally used in business and industry. Almost all big business offices and banks own computers, transactions as well as many office routine jobs such as preparing reports, payrolls, filing, recording, etc. are done by computers. The more up to date and bigger hospitals use computers for many purposes. A computer gives the doctor fast and accurate diagnosis of illness. Given the patient’s history and results of laboratory test can be analyzed by computers. Latest models in car utilize computers. In air travel, computers control air traffic. Some housewives also use computers for their budgeting chores.
But in all wonderful and varied uses of the computers, the human being is in dispensable. Computers will be useless without the programmer or user. The government will have to embark on a continuing skills upgrading program so teacher, especially in public schools, can take advantage of advances in information technology to teaching methods.
The cyber Education Project is good but if the government cannot improve the classroom conditions, standard of living of the people, eliminate the graft and corruption, bribery in the government officers, develop the IET skills, and improve working and welfare condition of teacher, it will be another project that will not help in attaining the desired quality education of our country. The combined efforts of the government, parents, and teachers, and even NGO’s are needed to fully achieve quality education.
