While it is true that teaching is considered the noblest profession, there is still a problem on why people claim that there is already a low impression of teacher education. Most of our top officials in the government finished courses there is a question about teachers pay.
Traditionally teachers are among the lowest paid of educated professions. While advances are being made in many areas, teachers pay lags behind comparably educated people in other fields.
What the DepEd or any institution needs is competent leaders and teachers. In no case do DepEd officials seem to find ways to cope with the advances brought by the changes in the system. But still they cannot be more competent than any other time; but his concept would be considered not necessarily true because there is evidence that childrens of today show great improvements especially in the field of Medical Science. But why is there still a shortage of good teachers and administrators in spite of the fact that a number of schools or institutions are being established and accredited?
The Philippines 2010 report from the National Assessment Test revealed that most regions in the Philippines noted a very low performance in English and Mathematics which is even lower than parents’ past results in education. This further implies that the education skills of our young generations cannot surpass will not equal, will not even approach the past performance of their parents.
This is one reason why the DepEd is presently conducting an outreach education, such as the literacy program, because most graduates even in four year courses cannot effectively read and write English language, skills they should have mastered or perfected in school.
Is there something wrong with a system requiring school attendance but cannot seem to make pupils master their skills expected of them? This is a traditional way of teaching. Is it the system? Is it lack of funds? Is it the result of corruption by some government officials? Is it teacher factor? Are parents to be blamed? These questions and answers interact in some ways.
Parents worry about the quality of education their children are receiving, they claim something is seriously wrong in the field of education. This animated discussion is an unending debate. So it is really important to show the importance of teachers and administrators. At present it is fortunate that the government is beginning to understand that the most influential people as catalyst of change are the teachers and administrators.
