…Because we know the power of a great education. We’ve known that education is the best anti-poverty program.“Education then, beyond all other devices of human origin, is a great equalizer of the conditions of men—the balance wheel of the social machinery….it prevents being poor.” A countries that out-educate us today will out-compete us tomorrow.” That’s why it is our responsibility to ensure that every child receives a world class public education.
As an educator, I know that education is the best equalizer. Education serves as a bridge between despair and hope. It allows everyone, regardless of their background, the opportunity to achieve on the basis of merit. And those opportunities increase with the amount of education a person can access and obtain. We have made great strides in providing opportunity through educational access, but we still have a long way to go. I have a special obligation to try to make a difference in this area. We will continue to build on our already solid foundation of community programs focused on improving education.
Education, the great equalizer of society, allows those who pursue it to be on equal footing with everybody else. Education knows no race, no class, or no shortcuts. I strongly believe that education is the greatest gift I can give to myself, and to my community. As I pursue a career in teaching, and assess my life thus far as I transition from high school to college, I can really see how education is the best thing that has ever happened to me, it has opened my eyes up to who I am, it has shown me what I really want to do, and has shown what I can potentially give back to society. I believe that getting an education gives you more choices in life, ultimately allowing you more chances to leave an imprint on society. I know that education can get me there, and that it is up to me to decide on what I can contribute to myself, and society.
