The effective way to build trust in the school setting among teachers, between principals and school faculty, between students and teachers and between school professionals and parents is repeated successful social exchanges. When new principal arrives in a school, teachers may be unwilling to immediately begin an instructional reform effort under the new leadership. However, as their social interactions progress and teachers gain some knowledge of the principal’s values combined with the consistency of their actions, and their sense of responsibility, teachers may be more willing to enter into more risky interactions. Although past exchanges may have been on smaller projects, their successful completion has allowed trust between the principal and teacher to grow. With each successful repeated interaction the relationship moves forward and the deeper the trust relationship the greater the opportunities are for action. When teachers are engaged in repeated social interchanges with principals it influences the levels of trust.
