In able to fill the needs for Science and Mathematics teachers for High School ,the Department of Education issued a Memorandum #55 s.2012 which will give priority to Department of Science and Technology -Science Education Institute scholars in the hiring of the teachers in the public secondary schools.
It’s 143 graduates last SY 2011-2012 may be considered for hiring this SY 2012-2013 provided that they should pass the Licensure Examination For Teachers (LET).
It was stipulated on the Scholarship Agreement upon the completion of their courses, the scholars are required to teach in public secondary schools in their home region for a period equivalent to the number of years they enjoyed the scholarships.
In the province of Bataan ,in town of Orion at Orion National High School , two teachers who were presently teaching on the said school were a DOST- scholars .One of them is Ms. Jermie Artuz ,Master Teacher in Mathematics is now on her 8th years of teaching . According to her, it was really a privilege to be a DOST scholar because after graduation and having a license she was able to practice her craft on the public school with a permanent position. While Ms. Ressureccion Maan ,the Second Year Mathematics teacher ,on the same school was also a DOST – scholar who is now on her second year of teaching.
Artuz and Maan are only examples of teachers hired from the DOST-SEI scholarship program of the Philippine government which primarily objective is to give education to the poor but deserving students.
