Teachers have a lot to do with students’ motivational level.  Studies showed that students who are well motivated learn more.  Motivating students to learn are both challenging and rewarding.  Challenging because not all students can be motivated at the same time and not all students are motivated by the same thing.  However, if we have succeeded in motivating them there will be some sort of fulfillment and our instruction will become effective and so they will learn a lot.

Consider some of these ways on how to motivate our students:

Make Real
Try to create learning activities that relate to the lives of the students and that are      relevant to them.

Offer help to struggling students
Students in need should be given extra attention and make them feel that they are part
belong to that class and everyone is willing to help him out in their lessons.

Teach Teamwork
Always inculcate among students the value of cooperation and teamwork to be able to
successfully accomplish their task.

Inspire the students
Make it a habit of praising students for every achievement and correct answers and
allow them to earn rewards especially when looking for appropriate behavior.
this will inspire them to do better every day.

Varied Experiences for the learners
Provide activities that will give greater opportunities for students.  Include opportunities
for learning each of the multiple intelligences theorized by Dr. Gardner in 1983.

Assign Responsibilities
Students feel their worth as persons if they are given some responsibilities because they
feel the trust given to them.

Track Improvement
Give frequent feedback, early, positive feedback that support student’s beliefs that
they can do well.  This help students sense their progress in reaching goals.

Empathize with the students
Teachers should be sensitive to the fact that students vary in abilities and learning styles
and so the teacher should put himself in place of the students to be able give equal
learning opportunities for them.

To be an effective teacher, one should be and effective motivator but it is not that
easy.  It requires skill and there are many different ways to do this.  What a teacher need is
persistence and patience.
