Confucius once said that “The way of higher education is cultivated and
practiced by manifesting the enlightening character of spiritual power, loving
the people as they grow, and living in the highest good.”
Similarly, the Department of Education (DepEd) aims to uphold the quality
of education in the Philippines by implementing the K – 12 program. This
program offers a more balanced approach to learning that will enable children to
acquire and master a lifelong learning skills for the 21st century. Certainly,
the K – 12 program addresses the need for a better curriculum that will solve
problems regarding the proficiency of the learners but according to the
department,it will not fully address the drop- out problems. Furthermore, this
problem has also its disadvantages in terms of the budget needed for the facilities
the well equipped teachers and the additional cost to the parents. As a
counterpart, there are remedies which the government stated that will lessen the
disadvantages of this curriculum.
The DepEd assured the people that they can provide the necessary things
that will be useful enough in the implementation of this said program. Is this
what Confucius said about the higher education? Can we really attain the quality
education we desire? As what the government said, “ We cannot tell the
outcome unless we test it”
