In an attempt to provide information and technological assistance to the agricultural sector, the Municipality of Orion opened a Farmers and Fisherfolks Information and Technology Center (FITS – Techno Pinoy) at the Ground Floor of the Municipal Building. In a simple program held on 17 June 2008, the blessing of the center further manifested the Raymundo administration’s concern for the farmers and fisherfolks of the community. Among those who witnessed the blessings officiated by Rev. Fr. Monching Magana, St. Michael Parish Vicar, were Hon. Mayor Antonio L. Raymundo, Jr., Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) President Dr. Delfin O. Magpantay, Dr. Pastora S. Coloma, Extension Director of the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) and Ms. Imelda D. Inieto of the Provincial Agriculture Office.
After the blessings of the center, a simple program followed where Dr. Coloma briefed the audience of the services to be provided by the center. The FITS – Techno Pinoy Center will be run through the supervision of the BPSU Extension Office. The center will also serve as a technical advisory and consultancy council to the farmers and the fisherfolks. It also envisions to establish partnership with other resource centers to enhance its services. The event was highlighted by the signing of Memorandum of Agreement between the Municipality of Orion and BPSU to formalize the establishment of the center in the municipality. The MOA was made possible through a resolution adopted by the Sangguniang Bayan of Orion.
