Some people  say that engaging in sports is a waste of time. This belief is unfortunately shared by many parents, teachers and even pupils. Nothing can be farther from the truth. When we are engaged in sports, we don’t only build the strong and healthy body , we also develop a sound mind. We also acquire values and character traits that will help us excel not only in sports but in the most important “game” of everyday living.

In engaging in sports activities, we develop self discipline. Having self discipline  means having the inner strength  to make our emotions, desires, and attitudes doing what is right  and be able to resist the temptation to do wrong.

Sports  helps a person to develop sportsmanship. We can also learn the virtue of honesty. To be fair and square-this is the hallmark of a sportsman, he plays the game fairly and honestly.

It  also improves a person’s ability to relate to others since through sports activities we meet more people. More people than we should have met if we just stay at home. We, therefore increase more and improve  one’s confidence.

Sports makes one recognizes the value of teamwork. Teamwork is extremely important especially in sports like basketball, volleyball, baseball and other ball games wherein  players work as one on order to aim one goal.

In playing the true game of life, one is equipped with good values there is no reason to lose but look forward to a sure win.
