We are expecting a nationwide election in more than a month from now. This is surely a serious endeavour for the teachers asit will mean another hardworking and stressful series of days for them. They really take time and effort in preparing the rooms to be utilized as precincts and seeing to it that all the paraphernalia needed are complete before the election. They face different kinds of moods of individuals especially voters during election in which there are cases where their credibilityis even questioned. They fulfil their duties to the extent of 24 hours during the election period. These are just some of the usual sentiments of teachers deserving to be really called heroes of our time.
The role of teachers during election is really a serious job. Adding up to the pressure is the difficulty of handling the main proceedings. But big thanks that PCOS (Precinct Count Optical Scanner) is now at help. Although there are some minimal problems arising on its use but there is really ease, comfort and facilitation especially on the transmission of results. The only problem with the use of this machine is the know-how among the teachers who will be the Board of Election Inspectors or BEI’s.
To fix that problem, a two- day seminar was given for each batch of BEI’s for a particular municipality in Bataan. March 20 and 21, 2013 was the schedule given for Orion and Balanga City held at Crown Royale sponsored by COMELEC. They were allowed to enjoy a live-in seminar for two days while having the refresher lecture and hands on training on the use of the PCOS machine. This turned out to be an exciting and enjoyable as the teachers really learned on how to make use of the said machine.
