Many teachers come to a point when they seem to run out of ideas on how to effectively teach their students. Here are some ways in which you can continuously succeed in helping your students learn:
1. When your students have a question, don’t answer it immediately! Show them how to research the answer on their own, so they can know how to do it when you’re not around. There are many websites offering simple information which children of any age could understand, so point them in that direction.
2. Limit the distractions in your workspace. Shut off the ringer on the phone, minimize noise, ensure proper ventilation, among others. The fewer distractions you have to compete with, the smoother your lessons will go.
3. Don’t forget the ‘social’ side of school. A child gains much more from school than simply academics. Make sure that your student is involved in activities that a school offers such as sports and music.
4. Plan out a ton of activities to accentuate your students’ learning. If they’re learning about history, have them act out the time they’re learning about. They can dress up, speak like people of that time and even engage in battle, if that is what the topic is. It gives them a chance to truly experience what they’re learning, immersing them in the topic and ensuring they learn as much as possible from the lesson plan you present.
5. Create your own flash cards. There is no need to waste money on expensive sets of flash cards when you can do it yourself. All you need to make your own are some index cards and a marker. Besides saving money, this technique also allows you to tailor the flash cards to your students’ specific needs.
Those are just some of the few ideas you can utilize. For sure, your creativity can help you think of more wonderful and effective ways to present your lessons to your students.
