The project of the government to help the pupils in need was adopted by every school in the country, Bantan Elementary School is one of them. Parents, teachers and stake holders joined hands in order to fulfill this project. Teachers of every grade of the said school weighted their pupils to know their nutritional status if he/she is normal, below normal or overweight. There are 131 enrollees weighted and found out that 46 children are below normal or underweight. There are 3 in grade I, 8 in grade II, 5 in grade II, 5 in grade IV, 10 in grade V and the most numbers of underweight is in grade VI which is 15 pupils. This case bothers the teachers of Bantan Elementary School specially the grade VI adviser, Mrs. Patricia Hernandez, so she called a meeting to her Homeroom PTA Officers. She told the result of nutritional status of these children. They decided to have a supplementary feeding to these underweight children. But how can this be true without any fund? So they decided to solicit funds for this project. All the teachers of the said school headed by the principal, Mrs. Araceli A. Buenaventura, did the first move. First, they gave some money to begin the first day of supplementary feeding. And to start with, they dewormed the concerned children with their parents’ consent. The President of General PTA of the school, Mrs. Emma Reyes also joined and gave help. She offered her time in soliciting funds for the project. Then the feeding started on June 22, 2008. The staff raised funds and still raising funds with GOD’s help. The school received cash and in kind of this.
The Homeroom PTA Officers of every grade are assigned to prepare the food daily. They make sure that the food they are preparing are cheaper but delicious and full of nutrients to be needed by the body in order to help underweight children to gain their weight. The staff is planning to give supplementary feeding for 120 days in GOD’s will.
