The country’s educators must also be subjected to the development and enhancement of
their role as molders of the country’s potential leaders. Teachers should be reminded of their duties
and responsibilities to create in developing the leaders in the school- based scenario.
The task of developing students’ leadership abilities is quite a challenging one for it requires
teachers to be leaders in their own right. What makes the role challenging is it requires teachers to
instill in the students’ minds that academic excellence is not be all and end-all of education, they should
be able to create among the students a frame of mind that places weight on solving real-life problems
over mere theoriesaquired in school. The role teachers play as gatekeepers for achieving life-long
learning is therefore an essential ones.
Comformably, teachers must manifest the qualities of a leader, not only in scholastic areas,
but also in addressing issues and concerns outside the four walls of the classroom.
