Let us put much faith in teachers as the facilitator of learning and the director of the conditions for learning.
And whatever plans we have about improving education, the ultimate drivers of excellence in education are the teachers in the classroom. Therefore, we have to give the teachers all the opportunity to develop themselves as professional teachers in the classroom.
It is lamentable, though, that many teachers do not have as much opportunities for continuing upgrading and intensive training in areas where student performance is very low like Reading, English, Math and Science.
More so, the pride in being a teacher has been reduced to being “teacher lang ako” during those years when the education sector could not attract top students to enter the teaching profession because of the low regard for teachers.
There was demoralization and we could see that this plagues our teachers today.
We need to put back the dignity and nobility in teaching for teachers are the drivers of excellence in education.
