Teachers are role models. It is teachers who keep the focus on the student.
According to BATAS PAMBANSA BLG. 232; Chapter II, Article 16, every teacher shall:
• Perform his duties to the school by discharging his responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the school.
• Be accountable for the efficient and effective attainment of specified learning objectives in pursuance of national development goals within the limits of available school resources.
• Render regular reports on performance of each student and to the latter and the latter’s parents and guardians with specific suggestions for improvement.
• Assume the responsibility to maintain and sustain his professional growth and advancement and maintain professionalism in his behavior at all times.
• Refrain from making deductions in students’ scholastic rating for acts that are clearly not manifestations of poor scholarship.
• Participate as an agent of constructive social, economic, moral, intellectual, cultural and political change in his school and the community within the context of national policies.
Teachers need to perform his duties in line with the school’s vision and mission.They must create a learning environment that motivates students to want to learn the material the teacher has prepared for them. To do so, teachers must be experts in the subject matter they are teaching and understand various instructional techniques.
Teachers are responsible to report learners progress through conducting quarterly meetings to parents or guardians .Update himself with professional literature, taking and finishing graduate studies, attending seminars, trainings, workshops, etc. Set internal and external standards by following the rules of the DepEd and Code of Ethics.
The school and school district, and to some degree the state, have a clear responsibility for providing teachers with quality professional development opportunities which enhance their subject matter knowledge and teaching skills. At the same time, teachers must accept the personal responsibility to participate in these professional development experiences and to seek out such experiences when they are not provided by the school/district/state.
