Among all the countries in Asia, Philippines is the only country left with ten years of basic education. This curriculum is inadequate, given today’s demands versus Asian neighbors who already applied twelve years of basic education. Our government exceedingly gazes at education as a main factor of triumphant living thus the k to 12 program is designed to prepare Filipinos to be globally competitive.
The Department of Education is trying to get to the bottom of unraveling the tribulations of Philippine Education. Putting up the K-12 program into action includes new curricula for all schools, public and private, making the educational system mandatory and improving the competitiveness of our country worldwide. It will aid to the development of outfitted individuals with lifelong learning skills and competencies. It is best hoped that Filipino students will be more knowledgeable, well- equipped that will result to the country’s economy and satisfaction.
K-12 is for common good. Students who will complete these new curricula will be acknowledged with certificates, some of which is equivalent to a two- year college degree. And to prepare students for employment, the department is working hand in hand with the CHED and TESDA.
The key to global competitiveness is education. It is everybody’s apprehension for an educated person contributes a lot to the development and pride of his country. Let the K-12 lead the way to the adaptation of global system, global issues and global competencies. Let it mold the heart and mind of our young and pioneering Filipinos leading them towards success worldwide.
