In a common educational setting it is more often than not that the mandate of leadership is bestowed upon and must begin with the principal. This task may require from him or her for more than what the definition requires for teachers as the profession entails are leaders in their own way. They are molded to be leaders as guides to the young minds in the pursuance of quality life through education. The main challenge for the principal therefore, is to build a community of leaders for the purpose of achieving the objective of purposeful mentoring.

The principal must lay the foundation of the “building”. He or she must be highly motivated to achieve such role and make himself or herself part of the system or the community rather than the mere implement or of actions. Being an active participant will involve him or her considerably with the teachers thus build relationships with communication flowing from both directions. This will eventually form a community of highly motivated educators with respect to each colleague and performing their shares in the development of a well balanced educational system.
