It is often said that a four year college degree is worth a million dollars. The lifetime difference in income between graduates and those with only high school education proves it. Wouldn’t it be nice for you as an elementary school teacher to plant the seeds for dreams towards a higher education to your young students?
Here are some helpful tips you can give them that might open their eyes to what it would feel like to have a College education. Share these things to them:
1. You have a syllabus in college. Read the course syllabus first thing. The syllabus will tell you when your instructor is available to answer questions and provide extra help. You will quickly see what will be expected of you in the course. The syllabus tells you what your instructor wants you to learn, and thus how to prepare for tests.
2. Locate the admissions office and pay it a visit. They will help you to determine which scholarships you might be eligible for. A lot of school will offer their students scholarships. Visiting an admissions offer allows you to check out all the available funding options you have when it comes to paying for college.
3. Make the effort to get to know each of your instructors. Use office hours to visit each instructor at least once during the term. If the instructor is teaching a class in your major or intended major, spend more time in office hours. When you need a letter of recommendation, it will be easier if your instructors know you.
4. Enjoy your college life by joining activities and clubs. Widen your network. Make good friends to students who aim to finish school and succeed. Enhance your talents, skills, and abilities and you will go a long, long way.
