Poor health is one of the main reasons of frequent absenteeism among pupils. Some say health is wealth but for others staying to school means- there is food or the table. Most of the time pupils especially those belong in lower sections have poor attendance because of the common reason – “Wala po kaming pagkain.”
Studies show that 10 out of 50 pupils were severely malnourished and almost 45 percent of the total school population experienced malnutrition.
To arrest the increasing problems of malnutrition the Department of Education implemented School Feeding Program which is now on its seventh year wherein those pupils who are being determined, moderate and severely malnourished undergo such program.
School feeding is only one of the many programs being implemented by the Dep Ed as means of resolving the pressing problems of malnutrition and to keep the children in the school.
