A high percentage of dropouts happen in different schools in most cases. The problem of dropouts is not so serious in the Central Schools where students are given opportunity and advantages.

From information gathered from personal interviews and conferences with parents during home visits, it was found out that there come reasons why students quit school besides disagreeable teachers.

It may be true that the teacher is one factor that causes in our school today, but there are other factors.

SCHOOL- The physical aspect of the school contributes much to its holding power. An old dilapidated school building whose walls and ceilings are falling is very unattractive as well as hazardous.

DISTANCE FROM THE SCHOOL- before the parents attempt to enroll their children, the first thing they consider is the distance of the school from their home. If the school is too far, the children find long hike tiring and they drop out.

CHANGE OF THE RESIDENCE- Parents often crave for greener pastures. If a change comes to improve their economic status, they transfer to another place and their children quit school.

POVERTY- The majority of the Filipino people are still poor. Indigent students cannot buy materials needed in school like paper, notebooks, ballpen, and other materials. Moreover, they can’t buy uniforms to wear in school. This kind of students eventually quit school.

ATTITUDE OF PARENTS- Parents who are illiterate usually do not have interest in the education of their education of their children. Some parents want their children to help with the household chores. Some even pressure their children to work in order to earn.

ILLNESS- The poor physical health of students is most important in causing dropouts.
The home and the school have an equal share of responsibility in the problem of dropouts among our school children. They should joint effort to solve the problem.
